Back in the day (six years ago?) I had an HTC phone, the Sprint Mogul, which ran Windows Mobile. I loved it. One of the major selling points for me was the interconnectivity with my Exchange Server. While others mocked the fact that it ran Windows, even down to the ‘Start’ menu, this was not a problem for me. But time marches on …
My phone eventually died and I was seduced by Android and the much-better-than-Windows version of Maps. This was something I used a lot and the fact that the Android version was a vast improvement over my old one sold me.
I’m pretty much OS-agnostic and view devices as tools rather than fashion accessories. I use Windows on the desktop and (now) Android on my phone/tablet.
When the Microsoft Courier tablet was first mentioned in 2009(?) I thought it was a great concept. I truly believe that it was more ground breaking than the Apple iPad with which it would have competed. Now the story of its demise has surfaced, courtesy of Jay Greene at CNET in a two-part story.
Bottom line: it wasn’t Windows enough for the powers-that-be at Microsoft. What a mistake. I can only hope (very strongly!!) that J Allard is somewhere that he can influence a similar product to market. I have my credit card ready.
